Gareth took over as our Musical Director in January 2017.

Gareth Giles was Head Chorister at Hereford Cathedral and commenced Piano lessons at the age of 4, then Organ lessons at 9. He became professional in his early teens, soloing on Piano and Organ as well as being accompanist and M.D. for many choirs, ensembles and musical productions, whilst still at school.

He first studied Organ with Dr Roy Massey at Hereford and gained the Associateship diploma of the Royal College of Organists, aged 16. After graduating from the Royal College of Music, Gareth worked as a piano teacher, freelance Organist and Director of Music at Heathside School in Weybridge, concurrently.

Gareth has over 40 years of playing experience, as an Organist, Pianist, accompanist, concert artist and function pianist. He first started directing choirs at the age of 13 and has since that time been the Musical Director of many Church, Male Voice, Female Voice, Mixed and School choirs.

During his Piano career, Gareth has held residencies as a Lounge Pianist at many London Hotels and Restaurants, including his current positions at The RAC Country Club, Epsom and The Petersham Hotel, Richmond. In this relaxing atmosphere, he has had the pleasure of entertaining and being introduced to many celebrities. He has also had the honour of performing for The Prince and Princess of Wales.

As an accompanist, Gareth is heavily in demand for vocal and instrumental soloists, students preparing for Music exams, tutoring, training and performing in any style.

Gareth has performed on the Organ at 17 UK Cathedrals and been piano accompanist at all the major London Concert venues. As a composer, Gareth has composed 7 Children’s Cantatas, over 40 Christmas Carols, Church, Instrumental and Orchestral Music. As well as being performed in many schools and churches, some of his works have premiered at The Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, Dorking Halls and Guildford Cathedral. He is currently composing a suite of Instrumental Ensemble Music as well as transcribing and arranging the wild and wacky 4th Piano Concerto of Nikolai Kapustin. Along with Kapustin, favourite composers include: Piazzolla, Poulenc, Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, Fauré and Michel Legrand.

Gareth divides his time between his great loves of Church Music, Performing, accompaniment, composing, function playing and teaching. During 2017 he will be performing a number of solo recitals as well as a series of 2-Piano Concerts in France. He is also passionate about the role of music in the education of children and young adults with Special Needs.
